Alumnus Cohen joins Potsdam Sports Hall of Fame

Stan Cohen '56 was recently inducted into the SUNY Potsdam Sports Hall of Fame.

Cohen, who has worked with the men’s basketball program at SUNY Potsdam for more than 33 years, is the longest-tenured person on the Bears' coaching staff. He began working with Coach Welsh in 1971, continues today as an assistant coach for Sherry Dobbs. Cohen has been with the Bears during two national championships, the 60-game winning streak, six SUNYAC Tournament championships and numerous NCAA appearances. Eight Bears players were named All-Americans during Cohen’s watch.

While at Hobart, Cohen lettered in lacrosse and basketball. After graduating he joined the coaching staff at nearby SUNY Canton as the men's basketball coach and an accounting instructor. As the men's coach, he tallied a 247-143 record. Before his 1995 retirement from the college as professor emeritus, he also served as physical education instructor, department chair, and athletic director.

He also holds a masters degree from Syracuse University.

Cohen and his wife, Rosalyn, live in Canton. They are the parents of four children and the grandparents of nine.
