LuLu Westbrooks-Griffin, a former civil rights activist who spoke in Geneva at “The Freedom Series,” in February 2003, was featured in a documentary about a group of young girls unjustly arrested for protesting against segregation in the South.
A story in the Thursday, July 26 edition of the Democrat & Chronicle mentioned “LuLu and the Girls of Americus, Georgia 1963,” which will be featured on WXXI Channel 21 at 8 p.m. today.
She was also featured in a special report, “Stolen Girls,” in the June issue of Essence magazine.
“The Freedom Series” was a three-part program designed to teach tolerance and sponsored by the Geneva Interfaith Council, the Geneva Human Rights Commission, and Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Westbrooks-Griffin now lives in Springwater, in Livingston County.
