Guitar Instructor Dies

HWS guitar instructor Mark Manetta died on Tuesday, June 7. Manetta has taught guitar and electric bass in the Department of Music at Hobart and William Smith Colleges since 1999.

A Rochester native, Manetta’s musical experience covered a period of more than 30 years as a teacher, performer and studio musician. During his career he toured internationally and recorded with Chuck Mangione, Ben Vereen, the Rochester and Buffalo philharmonic orchestras, and many others. He can be heard playing on hundreds of records as well as many national themes for television stations such as HBO, NBC, ABC, and many local commercials.

Manetta, 49,is survived by his parents, Mary and Manny Manetta; and brother, Thomas Manetta; two children, Alicia and Jonathan; and their mother, Marsha Manetta; and dear friend Deborah Sorensen.

Calling hours will be held from 2 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, at the Falvo Funeral Home, 1295 Fpt. Nine Mile Pt. Rd. (Webster Route 250 between 104 and Plank).

On Monday, the family will hold a service at 11 a.m. in Bethel Christian Fellowship Church, 321 East Ave., for the celebration of his funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to City Church, 212 E. Main St., Batavia, N.Y. 14020 or the American Diabetes Association.
