Chaplain Adams named to diocesan committee

Chaplain Lesley Adams was recently elected to the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester.

This group, four clerical and four lay members who serve four-year terms, acts as a Council of Advice for the bishop and serves as the ecclesiastical authority in his absence.

It gives consent to the ordination of deacons and priests in the diocese and the election and consecration of bishops throughout the church; gives parishes permission to buy and sell property or to incur indebtedness.

The Standing Committee also oversees the process for electing a diocesan bishop. At the diocesan annual convention, Oct. 27-29, Bishop Jack McKelvey, a member of the HWS board of trustees, announced his plans to retire in the spring of 2008.
