On April 27, the Hobart and William Smith Russian language students traveled to Union College to compete in an “Olympiada of Spoken Russian.” The students were judged in three separate events– speaking about themselves, reading a previously unseen text, and reciting a poem from memory. Hobart student Evan Hourigan took second place, and William Smith student Sarah Kapp tied for third place. The competition, based on the national secondary school event, will be held annually, and was planned by HWS Professor David Galloway and Union College Professor Kristin Peterson. Next year's competition will be hosted by the Colleges. We would like to gratefully acknowledge the generous support of PGE, which made our participation in the competition possible.
