Kate Ustach '07 has been named Leader of the Month for October.
She embodies the leadership skills and spirit that Hobart and William Smith students strive to achieve and has demonstrated her leadership abilities in a variety of ways on campus and in the Geneva community.
Ustach has served in the Jumpstart program in many capacities since she became the first Volunteer Coordinator for the Jumpstart program in the Geneva community, in fall of 2004.
She has organized the volunteers and coordinated family newsletters and monthly programs for the children.
During last year's term abroad in Galway, Ireland, she made connections with community partners so students studying there in the future could have a positive service experience. She has also been an influential senior mentor for the Division of Student Affairs’ “Learning to Lead” inaugural program, where she organized and led a group of 14 students in leadership discussions and activities.
Kate also serves as office manager in the Public Service Office and has drawn on more than three years' experience to help organize the student assistants with community service related projects.
Nominations for the Student Leader of the Month may be submitted by Friday, Nov. 17, using the Nomination form. The student winner will receive a gift certificate for a free lunch or dinner at the Cobblestone Restaurant for themselves and a faculty or staff member of their choice.
