Five William Smith students received awards at the Association of College Unions International Region 2 conference, hosted by HWS and sponsored by the Office of Student Life and Leadership on Nov. 10-12.
Amanda Townsend '09 of Greene, N.Y., placed first in the student case study competition.
In addition, a bowling team composed of Brandi McCloud '09 of Rochester, Darlene Polanco '09 of Manhattan, Kristinia Santana '09 of Cleveland, Ohio; and Alyssa Smith '08 of Yarmouth, Maine, placed fourth.
Townsend said on the first day of the conference, participants created teams of three, and she was paired with two students from Monroe Community College in Rochester. Throughout the weekend, they “worked on solving a problem that you would typically deal with when working with a student organization.
“It had to do with hosting a comedian and inviting the public when the school and main source of funding don't approve. All of the teams went in front of a panel of three judges Sunday morning and presented their solutions. It was a great experience working with students from another school to come up with a winning solution for the situation.”
More than 100 students and staff participated in the conference.
