Ed Dailor ’59 talked about his recent trip to New Orleans at the Wednesday, Jan. 10 meeting of the Geneva Rotary Club.
He described how he and several friends frequently play golf in South Carolina or Florida during the winter, and how this year the group, with some women friends, decided to help repair flood damaged property in New Orleans.
“When I read about what HWS students had done in New Orleans I knew there must be something we could do too,” said Dailor, referring to the nearly half-dozen community service trips taken by Colleges’ students in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
Dailor described how he'd called Ave Bauder ’81, Director of Public Service, about how to get involved. Soon Dailor and his group, which included Joyce Arthur of the College Store, were rehabilitating an apartment building. In the five days, they cleaned rugs, painted hallways and repaired drywall in a six-story senior citizens apartment complex.
“It was devastating,” said Dailor, “there’s still so much to do.” He said he plans to return to New Orleans in April.
