Whitney L. Brice, a native of Pittsford, N.Y., has joined Hobart and William Smith Colleges as Director of Parent Relations.
Brice will focus on engaging parents through the Parents Fund and Campaign for the Colleges, and encouraging parent volunteerism in admissions, career services and events such as Orientation and Parents Weekend. The Parents Fund of Hobart and William Smith Colleges is a leader among independent liberal arts colleges with nearly 50 percent of parents participating.
Brice began her 18-year career in development at her alma mater, St. Lawrence University, in Canton, N.Y., where as a student she was senior class president and a volunteer and intern in the admissions, communications, development, and alumni relations offices.
These experiences guided her back to St. Lawrence to serve as associate director of alumni relations and then assistant director in the annual fund. Brice’s accomplishments include implementing a new event for first-year students and their parents who also attended St. Lawrence, and teaming with other staff to significantly increase giving among reunion classes.
After her St. Lawrence tenure, Brice spent 12 years in Vermont, working in major gift fundraising for Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington and the Vermont Land Trust in Montpelier, where she raised funds for land conservation as part of the organization’s $25 million capital campaign.
Of her new opportunity at Hobart and William Smith, Brice said, “I feel fortunate to work with the parents of our students, as we celebrate together this wonderful liberal arts institution. In just my first week on campus, I saw the incredible number of opportunities here that will have an impact on students’ lives well beyond their college years. The rich experiences and friendships gained here are invaluable.
