Raab ’61 Featured in New York Times

Ernest Raab '61 was featured in the July 18 New York Times article titled “2 Brokers Offer Warm Comfort in a Cold Market” Raab and his coworker Emilio Valdes are stockbrokers who work as a synchronized team at A. G. Edwards, and as such are the persona of the dark heart of this market to their clients. The author spent three days sitting with Mr. Raab, 57, and Mr. Valdes, 34, at the front lines of a market in tumult, to give a glimpse of what it is like in what has become one of the more nerve-racking jobs in America. Over those three days the Dow eliminated nearly 600 points. The Nasdaq plunged by 100. Mr. Raab and Mr. Valdes didn't do much buying or selling — some bonds here, some mutual funds there — but delivered an abundance of therapy. They have a conservative bent — be diversified, buy quality for the long term. They're not tip-of-the-day brokers. “If you want to gamble, go to Atlantic City,” Mr. Raab tells clients. “At least you'll smell the salt air and see a good show.”
