Professor of sociology H. Wesley Perkins was invited to Darlington, England, to deliver the keynote address, “Using a Social Norms Approach to Reduce Risk,” at a regional conference on reducing unhealthy risk-taking among youth.
The March 23 conference, titled “Life’s a Gamble — Making Sure Your Young People Are Winners,” was sponsored by the Department for Education and Skills of the Government Office of the Northeast.
Perkins also presented a workshop at the conference on “Strategies for Stopping the 'Reign of Error' among Youth: Applications of the Social Norms Approach to Risk Behavior Prevention.”
A member of the faculty since 1978, he holds a bachelor's degree from Purdue, and his masters and doctoral degrees from Yale.
