Todd R. W. Horn, head of school at the Kent Denver School, and his wife, Jane Horn, a history teacher at Kent Denver, hosted a special reception May 28 for alumni and alumnae of the Colleges. Mrs. Horn is a 1981 graduate of William Smith College. Stephen L. Cohen, managing director of Learning Solutions Group, hosted a special reception May 29 for alumni and alumnae of the Colleges living in the Minneapolis area. Mr. Cohen is a 1967 graduate of Hobart College, and this year Cohen was elected Alumni Council President.
Both receptions were attended by Colleges’ President Mark D. Gearan, who gave a State of the Colleges address to a combined group of more than 80 alums and their guests. Gearan presented the gatherings with a report of the $6.5 million, 30,000-square-foot academic building that began construction this week on campus. Construction of the three-story building will be completed by fall 2003. He shared other good news with group: early decision applications have risen nearly 116 percent during the past four years, the enrolled classes consists of more students from the top 10 percent of their high school classes, and recent speakers to visit campus have included legendary singer Judy Collins who was this year’s baccalaureate speaker and CNN commentator Mark Shields who presented the commencement address.
