McCooey ’76 returns to stock exchange – for a visit

Herbert J. McCooey Jr. ’76, P’04, P’09, a member of the Colleges’ Board of Trustees, was among the representatives of Tuesday’s Children who rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange’s trading floor on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

McCooey is also a member of the Board of Directors for Tuesday’s Children, a non-profit organization founded to assist those directly affected by the events of the attacks six years earlier. McCooey followed his father’s career path as a broker on the New York Stock Exchange, and recently retired as managing director of Bear Wagner Specialists, a subsidiary of The Bear Stearns Companies, Inc.

He said the daily Opening Bell, symbolizes “the history and the future of the New York Stock Exchange – a daily, uninterrupted period offering the world’s most diverse array of financial services, with integrity, excellence and responsibility.

That day, the Opening Bell was preceded by a moment of silence.
