Pierre McGuire '83 received a Gemini Award naming him “Best Game Analyst” in ceremonies held Tuesday, Oct. 16 in Toronto. His honor was one of two presented for the “NHL on TSN broadcasts,” receiving awards celebrating excellence in English Language television in Canada.
The Sports Network (commonly known as TSN) is Canada's leading English-language sports television channel.
This is the first Gemini Award for McGuire, who was also nominated in 2004. One of hockey’s most passionate and knowledgeable analysts, McGuire has been selected numerous times by The Hockey News as one of the game’s 100 most powerful and influential people. A former NHL coach and scout, he won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins and joined TSN in 1999.
In addition, McGuire was profiled as one of the contributors to Sports Illustrated in the Oct. 8, 2007, issue.
An English major known as “RP” during his time at the Colleges, McGuire was a member of Theta Delta Chi and the football and ice hockey teams.
He spoke with Hobart student-athletes at the Napier Leadership Seminar in October 2004 and now writes for SI and broadcasts hockey games for NBC.
