Author who spoke on campus in Newsweek

Author Jeremy Scahill, who spoke on HWS campus in April 2007, is featured in a profile of Erik Prince, the man who founded Blackwater USA, in the Oct. 22 issue of Newsweek magazine.

Scahill, a longtime correspondent and producer for the Pacifica radio program “Democracy Now!” is the author of “Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army,” published by Nation Books.

The book has been described as “a searing exposé of Blackwater USA, the Bush administration's shadow soldiers operating in Iraq, Afghanistan and inside the U.S.”

A Puffin Writing Fellow at The Nation Institute, Scahill has received numerous accolades including the prestigious George Polk Award. While a correspondent for the national radio and television show “Democracy Now!, Scahill reported extensively from Iraq through both the Clinton and Bush administrations. He has also worked on the radio show “The Nation and has contributed to The Nation magazine.
