Recognizing outstanding civic leadership

The Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning has recognized 15 student leaders who have gone above and beyond in their work with three tutoring and mentoring programs during the Fall 2007 semester.

The staff congratulates the America Reads Tutors of the Month: Jennifer Beavers '11, who works at West Street Elementary School in Geneva; Martyna Boruta '10, at Romulus Central School; Deana Brown '08, at North Street Elementary in Geneva; Meredith Dean '10, at Lafayette Intermediate School in Waterloo; Sherry Funke '08, at St. Francis-St. Stephen School in Geneva; and Laura Moeller '11, at Main Street Elementary School in Waterloo.

America Counts tutors: Ross Green '09, Mark Makepeace '11 and Karina Polanco '11.

Jumpstart Geneva mentors: Daniel Boysen '11, Lillian Farnham '11, Belinda Littlefield '11, Hannah Sprague '10, Mackenzie Starr-Bonacci '10, and Katelyn Zatwarnicki '11.

America Reads tutors work with elementary school children in improving their literacy; America Counts tutors work with Geneva Middle School students in math; Jumpstart Geneva mentors work with pre-schoolers and help them prepare for school success.
