A story about the sailboat marina Associate Professor of Art Stan Mathews has proposed for downtown Geneva was featured with a drawing on the front page of the Thursday, Feb. 21 issue of the Finger Lakes Times.
Mathews envisions dredging an area near the City Recreation Complex and ice rink, between the railroad tracks and the arterial, where the banks supporting the roadway were recently enlarged, to allow construction of boat slips, restaurants, a railroad station and a visitors' center.
Geneva's City government recently held two public meetings to hear suggestions regarding development of the lakefront and downtown areas, and Mathews presented his plan at one.
Mathews, who joined the HWS faculty in 2000, holds a bachelor's from Beloit College, master's from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and his Ph.D. from Columbia University. A licensed architect, he is a member of the American Institute of Architects. He has served on the City of Geneva Planning Board and on the Overlay Planning Committee.
