Colleges Chorale Begins Spring Tour

May 8, 1998

Geneva, NY — The Hobart and William Smith Colleges Chorale, under the direction of Robert Cowles, will perform its Spring Tour Concert at 8 p.m., Saturday, May 23, in St. John's Chapel on the HWS campus, and again at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 24, at the Smith Opera House. Both concerts are open to the public free of charge, but at Sunday's concert guests may make donations to the Opera House's Steinway piano maintenance fund.

The concerts will include a number of works from the Renaissance period, several part songs by Franz Joseph Haydn, modern music from Scandinavia, and American folk music. The concerts will also feature the Chorale's chamber vocal ensemble, Cantori, performing a new work, “Reflections on the Road,” written upon commission expressly for Cantori by Oregon composer Jacob Avshalomov.

The group's concerts in Geneva represent the conclusion of its Spring Tour. Earlier in May, the Chorale performed in Syracuse, N.Y., and in Orange and Lexington, Mass.
