GENEVA, N.Y.-The community is invited to A Festival of Advent Lessons and Carols, held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, in St. John's Chapel on the Hobart and William Smith Colleges campus. The festival will feature the Colleges Chorale, directed by Kelly Hudson, instructor in music, as well as the Hobart and William Smith Wind Ensemble, directed by John Oberbruner. Everyone will join in singing traditional Advent carols accompanied by Colleges organist, Mary Ann Hamilton.
This traditional service of nine lessons and carols originated in England and was made famous at Kings College, Cambridge. The liturgy alternates biblical readings from the Hebrew and Christian scriptures with choral and congregational Advent carols. This is the second year Hobart and William Smith Colleges have offered this program.
This event is free and open to the public.
