Colleges Name New Controller

Geneva, N.Y. – Hobart and William Smith Colleges have named Michael A. Paparo, CPA, as the Colleges' controller. Paparo, who starts on November 15, was most recently a manager of assurance and business advisory services at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

Paparo joins the Colleges after eight successful years in public accounting. At PricewaterhouseCoopers, he worked primarily in the firm's higher education audit practice. He served various institutions of higher education in the upstate New York area as an auditor and consultant, and, having been involved in the external audits at the Colleges, and is very familiar with the institution.

As controller, Paparo will supervise and coordinate all functions of the Colleges' business office, prepare financial reports for external and internal use and act as liaison with external auditors, maintain records of the Colleges' investments, and work with the vice president for finance on planning initiatives.

“Mike brings with him strong technical expertise, proven management skills, and a genuine commitment to service,” notes Loren Loomis Hubbell, vice president for finance at the Colleges. “We could not be more pleased to have him be a leader of the finance team.”

Paparo earned his bachelor's degree in accounting at St. Bonaventure University and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the National Association of College and University Business Officers, among others. He also serves on the board of directors of the St. Thomas More Foundation, and sits on two committees for the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
