Fiction Reading by Helena Maria Viramontes Hobart and William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y.-Helena Maria Viramontes, a professor of English at Cornell University, will read from her novel in progress, Their Dogs Came With Them, at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, in the Geneva Room of the Warren Hunting Smith Library on the Hobart and William Smith Colleges campus. The event is free and the public is invited.

Viramontes is the author of The Moths and Other Stories and a novel, Under the Feet of Jesus, which was a finalist for Barnes and Noble's “Discover Great New Writers” award. Her stories have appeared in over 50 anthologies, most notably The Story and Its Writer and The Norton Anthology of Short Fiction. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the National Endowment for the Arts. In 1995 Viramontes received the John Dos Passo Literature Prize from the Longwood Foundation.

The reading by Viramontes is sponsored by the Colleges' Writers Reading and the Faculty Speakers Fund.
