Parents Weekend Offers Something For Everyone

GENEVA, NY – Hobart and William Smith Colleges will host Parents Weekend on October 12-14. A full line-up of events is scheduled to give parents a comprehensive view of their child's life at the Colleges.

Parents will have the opportunity to dine with their child at the student dining room, attend classes, meet key administrators and faculty members, and visit administrative offices on campus that offer student services, such as the career development center and the off-campus programs office. Sports options include a soccer game on Saturday–William Smith will play St. Lawrence, and football on Sunday– Hobart's football team takes on Franklin and Marshall.

The Bartlett Theatre on campus will offer three performances of Antigone, and Paul Taylor Dance Company, on campus for a three-week residency, will host a repertory workshop on campus on Friday night and perform on Saturday evening at the Smith Opera House. Guest speakers in attendance for the weekend include Dr. Tadataka Yamada 'P02, chairman of research and development at GlaxoSmithKline, discussing “The Importance of Undergraduate Science: Preparing for Careers in Scientific Research;” and Sally Osann Jaeger '75, assistant dean and director of admissions at the Amos Tuck School of Management at Dartmouth College discussing the benefits of a liberal arts education in future career choices.

There's more, like tours of the St. John's Chapel tower and excursions on the Colleges' research vessel, the Explorer-all designed to help parents learn about the Colleges and their child's experiences here.
