Catillaz Quoted on Charitable Giving to the Colleges

Michael J. Catillaz, vice president of institutional advancement, was quoted in the July 15 Finger Lakes Times article “Keuka's gifts buck national trend.” He said the $7 million that Hobart and William Smith Colleges raised from donors during the last academic year is about on par with what the Colleges have raised in a handful of past years, however funding derived from endowments – gifts that are invested and then the interest is used – is down. Catillaz said Hobart and William Smith did experience a decline in the amount of charitable giving last fall, but he said it rebounded strongly this spring. At Keuka College, where a $25 million fund-raising campaign has just wrapped up, charitable gifts to the school were up by 13 percent last fall over the fall of 2000. Donations this spring also were up compared to last spring.
