GENEVA, N.Y.—President Mark D. Gearan has announced the appointment of Susan L. Murad, of Canandaigua, to the position of director of communications at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Working with a staff of 11 people, Murad will oversee the media relations and publications program for the Colleges, including admissions and development publications, the alumni/ae magazine, and the Web site.
Murad, who started at HWS on April 9, had been with Rochester Institute of Technology's National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) since 1997 as a marketing communications specialist and most recently as director of marketing communications. Murad has previously served as director of communications and publications at Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) from 1994 until 1997, director of public relations at the YWCA of the Mohawk Valley, and as director of youth and family services at the Jewish Community Center of Utica. She is currently an adjunct instructor of marketing at FLCC.
Murad is a May 2001 candidate for a master of science in cross-disciplinary profession studies at Rochester Institute of Technology. She holds a bachelor of science in public relations from Utica College of Syracuse University. Murad is the daughter of Anthony and Roberta Murad of Utica.
Murad succeeds Dana L. Cooke, of Syracuse, who left to take a position with the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
