GENEVA, N.Y.—A spring performance featuring choreography by Hobart and William Smith Colleges dance department faculty members Donna Davenport, Michelle Repp, Cadence Whittier, and Cynthia Williams will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28, as well as a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, in the Winn-Seeley Gym-Theatre on the HWS campus. The program will also feature guest choreography by Kim Nofsinger, and performances by HWS students. General admission is $5; $3 for HWS faculty, staff, and students.
The concert presents a diverse mixture of dance styles, including contemporary ballet, modern dance, jazz, and tap. Performed by students selected through auditions, the concert involves 26 HWS students, including six Arts Scholars in dance.
Michelle Repp’s Kaleidoscope will open the concert. Choreographed to a driving contemporary jazz-fusion score, the piece is a display of shifting colors, movement, and textures. Cadence Whittier’s Movement Choir follows, based on the exploration of movement theorist Rudolph Von Laban. A contemporary ballet quintet on pointe choreographed by Cadence Whittier closes the first half of the concert.
Ascension, choreographed by Cynthia Williams, features eight dancers and an original score by composer Pat Long. essere, from the Italian “to be,” is the work of Donna Davenport, who choreographed the piece with three HWS students during a recent off-campus program in Rome. Michelle Repp’s a cappella tap piece ends the concert.
