Carle Given Tenure at HWS

Geneva, N.Y.—During its February meeting the Board of Trustees of Hobart and William Smith Colleges approved the promotion of Sigrid Carle to associate professor, effective July 1, 2001.

Sigrid Carle, assistant professor of biology, grew up in Geneva, graduated from Geneva high school in 1980, graduated from William Smith in 1984, and received a doctoral degree from Florida State University at Tallahassee. Her research interests include collaboration with Tom Burr at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station, studying A. vitis, a bacterium that causes crown gall disease in grapes. Carle joined the HWS faculty in 1994, and taught for two years in a temporary position before being made a permanent faculty member.

Carle is the daughter of Kenneth Carle, professor emeritus of chemistry, who taught at the Colleges from 1959 until 1992.
