Geneva, NY — The Houghton House Gallery at Hobart and William Smith Colleges will feature the works of sculptor Allen C. Topolski from Jan. 21 through Feb. 13. An opening reception will be held at 7 p.m., Fri., Jan. 23, in the gallery. The public is invited to attend.
Topolski, assistant professor of art at the University of Rochester, studied studio production at Penn State and Bucknell Universities. A recipient of the Penny McCall Grant for upcoming artists, he has had solo exhibitions in Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.
Topolski says his work, a product of a coalescence of found objects, “addresses the relationship between presence and absence, function and form, and the mundane and the unique.” His intention is that his work index both the moment of the found materials' past and the moment in which the viewer experience their new context.
The most recent works in the exhibition address places and means of display that bridge the gallery space with that of the domestic.
Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
