Geneva, NY — The work of Sydney Licht will be on exhibit at the Houghton House Gallery on the campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, May 1 – May 23. The exhibition will open with a reception Friday, May 1, 7 – 9 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Licht's work focuses on the language of still life painting in an attempt to reinvent this classic genre. While the term still life implies that the emphasis is on the apprehension of recognizable objects, Licht's work does not concern itself with rendering objects. Licht believes that the areas that separate the forms are full of implied meanings, and therefore the content in the paintings often lies in the spaces between the forms.
Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Saturday.
