Geneva, NY — Michael Black, general manager at WEOS 89.7-FM, the Hobart and William Smith Colleges-owned radio station, was recently awarded the 1998 Sid Brown Scholarship.
The Sid Brown Scholarship was established in 1994 in honor of Brown, who had served as National Public Radio's vice-president of finance and administration since 1986.
Black was selected from among applicants of other public radio stations to receive this honor. The award will allow Black to attend the Public Broadcasting Management Association's (PBMA) conference, and the Public Radio Conference, both in California this year. The PBMA is a professional organization comprised of public radio and television managers from across the country, and the conferences feature a variety of sessions and speakers from both inside and outside public radio.
“I feel that this award will allow me to grow professionally, and to bring back to WEOS information and ideas that will further enhance our ability to serve the public,” said Black.
WEOS is a member of National Public Radio, serving the Finger Lakes region with NPR news, music, sports, and other programming. Black has been with the Colleges since 1988.
