HWS Names New Board Chairman

June 4, 1998

Geneva, NY — Charles H. Salisbury, Jr., was recently elected chairman of the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Board of Trustees. Salisbury, who graduated from Hobart College in 1963 with a major in American history, has served on the Board since his election in 1991, holding such key positions as chairman of the Board's executive and investment committees. His hard work and generosity helped advanced the Colleges current capital campaign in many areas, including support for renovation in several Hobart residence halls and for computer work areas in the newly opened L. Thomas Melly Academic Center.

He now replaces Melly, who served as chairman of the Board for the past decade.

Salisbury is currently Executive Vice-President and Managing Director of Marketing and Service Strategies for United Asset Management Corp. in Baltimore, Md. Prior to taking this position, he worked for 23 years for T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., leaving as vice-president and managing director.

While at Hobart, Salisbury was on the Dean's List and was active in varsity lacrosse. He was also in the Advanced ROTC Program and Commander of the Arnold Air Society. After graduating from Hobart he served in the U.S. Air Force before earning the M.B.A., with honors, from Loyola College.

He and his wife Edith (Bunny) live in Baltimore. They have two daughters, Ann and Katherine (William Smith Class of '94).
