Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Director of Athletics Ken Ralph has announced the hiring of Leslie Khachadourian as the women's soccer and women's lacrosse head coach.
A native of Guilderland, N.Y., Khachadourian had been working at RPI for the past year as the field hockey and women's lacrosse intern. In addition, she served as the co-advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Prior to joining Rensselaer's staff, she was a graduate assistant with the lacrosse team at Washington College in Chestertown, Md.
A 2000 graduate of William Smith College, Khachadourian was a two-sport standout for the Herons, having played for the nationally-ranked soccer and lacrosse teams. She was a three-year member of the soccer team as a goalkeeper, captaining the squad to the NCAA Final Four as a senior. In lacrosse, she was a three-year starting goalie, earning First Team All-American honors and the Division III Goalkeeper of the Year Award as a senior.
A dual major in psychology and American studies, Khachadourian, earned the Inez Tallet Morris-Richard William Morris, Sr., Scholarship. She was a Dean's List student, a member of Hai Timai senior honor society and a National Verizon Academic All-American. In addition, she served on William Smith's Student Government and she volunteered at the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center of the Finger Lakes.
Khachadourian, who will oversee all aspects of both programs beginning immediately, takes over a soccer program that set a school record for wins in a season (17-4) and won the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament last season. In lacrosse, she will lead a team that expects the return of all but one player from a squad that finished 3-8 in 2002.
