Geneva, NY — Students in Manisha Desai’s Feminist Social Theory class study real issues, current issues, as they explore the topic of feminist social theory. These students will share what they’ve learned in “Pop, Porn, the Presidency…yo’ mama,” the feminist theory conference to be hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, in the Wasey Room of the Scandling Center on the Colleges campus. Art professor Nicholas Ruth, political science professor Iva Deutchman, and sociology professor Renée Monson will offer comments. The public is invited to attend.
The event is sponsored by the Fisher Center for the Study of Women and Men, the newly established enterprise under whose auspices faculty, students, and experts in the field explore the most important issues facing men and women in our time. The conference is one of several events to be held this year toward that end.
The students, Anna Kilkenny ’99, Courtinay Casey ’01, Catriona Stevenson ’02, Diane Rejiester ’99, Erin Jemison ’99, and Amy Benedict ’99, will give short presentations of their work and there will be time for discussion. A reception will be held directly following the event.
