Geneva, NY — “Works by Women” will be performed by the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Chorale, under the direction of Robert Cowles, at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, in St. John's Chapel on the HWS campus (South Main St.). The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
The repertoire for the concert includes music by Hildegard von Bingen, Fanny Hensel, and Amy Cheney Beach. In addition, the Chorale will perform “Past Life Melodies,” by Australian composer Sarah Hopkins and several arrangements of Irish and American folk songs by Alice Parker.
The concert is part of a series of events presented by the Colleges to celebrate Women's History Month.
In May, the Chorale will travel to New York City for its annual spring tour. The forty-two voice ensemble, fresh off production of its first compact disk last spring, will perform a balance of repertoire by men and women composers, from antiquity through the present day. In addition, the twenty-voice Cantori will perform a newly commissioned work by Minnesota composer Carol Barnett.
