Geneva, NY – “Celebrate Service, Celebrate Geneva,” the annual day of service that unites Hobart and William Smith Colleges students, faculty, and staff with Geneva community volunteers will be May 1. Volunteers will participate in activities at designated sites from 9 a.m. to noon, before returning to campus for a days-end celebration. All transportation is provided between the work sites and the Colleges campus.
Work sites are still being accepted for the day of service, which is in its sixth year. If you represent or are affiliated with a non-profit organization in the Geneva area that could use a few hours of volunteer help, please contact the Public Service Office at the Colleges at 315: 781-3825 to register.
The day of service began in 1994 as a joint initiative between the Colleges and the community. Last year more than 850 volunteers joined together to paint, rake, clean, and beautify 45 community sites.
This year, the “Celebrate Service, Celebrate Geneva” Steering Committee, comprised of Hobart and William Smith students and staff and Geneva community members, challenges everyone once again to increase participation in the event. Individuals, families, and businesses are strongly encouraged to join friends and neighbors for this important community event. In addition to the celebration upon return to campus, participants in the day of service will receive free admission to the Hobart Statesmen and William Smith Herons lacrosse games that afternoon. Both games begin at 1 p.m. For volunteer registration information, please contact the Public Service Office at 315: 781-3825.
