Pepatian Brings Latin Dance to HWS

March 24, 1999

Geneva, NY — Pepatian, a South Bronx-based arts organization dedicated to creating, presenting, and supporting multi-disciplinary Latino dance and performance, will present two concerts at the completion of a three-week residency at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. The concerts, at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 9 and 10, in the Winn-Seeley Dance Theater on the HWS campus, are open to the public; general admission is $5, $4 for HWS faculty and staff, and $2 for students and senior citizens.

Merián Soto, choreographer and director, and Sonny Allen, associate choreographer and mambo master, team with Irene Sosa (film) and Cuban Composer Adalberto Alvarez (music) to create a dynamic and diverse residency experience. Dancers Allen, Gina Benitez, Sita Fredricks, Antonio Ramos, Ivan Rivera, and Noemí Segarra will develop a new work about Salsa while on campus, and will premier that work at the Friday evening concert. They will also offer master dance classes and teach Salsa to members of the Colleges community as well as to middle school and high school students.

For more information about master dance classes, to be offered in beginning jazz, beginning and advanced modern dance, and in advanced ballet, please contact the HWS dance department at 315: 781-3760.

The residency is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).
