Geneva, NY — “Celebrate Service… Celebrate Geneva,” now in its sixth year, is looking for community volunteers to participate in the annual day of service that unites the Geneva community in teamwork, service, and celebration. This year, the date for “Celebrate Service… Celebrate Geneva” is May 1. Volunteers will gather on the Hobart and William Smith Colleges campus and from there will participate in activities at designated sites from 9 a.m. to noon, before returning to campus for a days-end celebration. All transportation is provided between the HWS campus and the work sites.
“Celebrate Service… Celebrate Geneva” began in 1994 as a joint initiative between Hobart and William Smith Colleges and the Geneva community. Last year more than 850 volunteers joined together to help at 45 community sites.
This year, as in the past, volunteers will rake, dig, paint, weed, cut down brush, wash vehicles, and help in other ways at sites such as the Lochland School, Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, the Geneva Salvation Army, the Church Home of Geneva, Pulteney Park, the lakefront, and more.
Individuals, families, and church, business and organization groups are encouraged to register and join friends and neighbors for this important community event. Community members may register at Tops and Wegmans. For registration information, please contact the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Public Service Office at 781-3825.
In addition to the celebration upon return to campus, participants in the day of service will receive free admission to the Hobart Statesmen lacrosse game that afternoon. The game begins at 1 p.m.
The Steering Committee, comprised of Colleges students, staff, and Geneva community members, still welcomes additional sites and projects. If you represent or are affiliated with a non-profit organization in the Geneva area that could use a few hours of volunteer help, please contact the HWS Public Service Office at 781-3825.
