May 1st Service Event Still Needs Volunteers

Geneva, NY – Volunteers are still needed for Celebrate Service… Celebrate Geneva, the annual day of service that unites the Hobart and William Smith and Geneva communities in teamwork, service, and celebration, to be held on May 1.

As of April 26, the number of registered volunteers is lower than the 850 who helped last year, and more help is needed for this event to be the success it has been in past years. Please join the cause to beautify Geneva by registering today at Tops or Wegmans.

Individuals, families, and church, business, and organization groups are encouraged to register and join friends and neighbors for this important community event. In addition to pre-registration at Tops or Wegmans, participants may register between 8 and 8:30 a.m. on the HWS Quad on the day of the event. All volunteers must gather on the quad by 8:15 a.m. to warm up for the morning of raking, digging, painting, weeding, mulching, cutting down brush, washing windows, washing service vehicles, and performing other activities at sites such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Geneva, Finger Lakes United Cerebral Palsy, Geneva Business Improvement District, Geneva Knights Baseball at McDonough Park, Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Washington Street Cemetery, West Street School, and many others.

The Day of Service will take place rain or shine so please come prepared for the weather. Volunteers will participate in activities at designated sites from 9 a.m. to noon, before returning to campus for a days-end celebration. All transportation is provided between the work sites and the Colleges campus. In addition to the celebration upon return to campus, participants in the day of service will receive free admission to the Hobart Statesmen lacrosse game that afternoon. The game begins at 1 p.m.
