Four HWS Students Travel to Japan

Geneva, NY — Four first-year and sophomore students from Hobart and William Smith Colleges were recently selected by a committee of professors and recommended by HWS President Richard Hersh to participate in the two-week event Technos International Program, held on the campus of Technos International College and at other locations in Japan early in June. Participants in this program include: Woody Shaw of New York City, Elizabeth Sweet of Stuyvesant, N.Y., Johanna Treffy of Selden, N.Y., and Matthew Zahn of Francestown, N.H.

The Technos International Program aims to promote international exchange and understanding as well as to provide an opportunity to experience and appreciate Japanese life and culture. The four students were selected to representative the Colleges based on genuine interest in Japan, an excellent academic record, and a willingness to meet people from different cultural backgrounds, and to experience aspects of Japanese culture which may be unfamiliar to them.
