GENEVA, NY – Several organizations on the Hobart and William Smith campus are joining forces to host a holiday party for elementary children in the area who might not otherwise take part in a holiday celebration. The party will be held from 5 until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, at the Colleges' Barn off of St. Clair Street. It is being organized by the Hobart Student Association and the Interfraternity Council.
The party will be a winter celebration and will include celebrations from all denominations. Game booths, arts and crafts, and activities, such as face painting, will be organized by individual clubs or groups. Ice cream and other refreshments will be served. A magician is also expected to perform.
Co-organizers, senior Gil Lang and first-year Jeremy Cooney, said they hope to make this an annual celebration with the Geneva community. This is the first year that the Colleges' students will be on campus immediately prior to the holiday season. Previously the campus operated on a trimester system and went home before Thanksgiving and returned after New Year's Day.
“We've never been here for the holiday season before,” Lang said. “In the spirit of the season, we hopefully will be able to carry on this tradition of giving.”
Anyone interested in attending or recommending elementary students who could be invited should call Ave Bauder in the Colleges' Office of Public Service at (315) 781-3825.
