Two William Smith Students Lose Their Lives in Tragic Auto Accident

Accident on Colgate Campus claims the lives of Emily Collins '04 and Rachel Nargosi '04

Geneva, NY – Two William Smith women were among those who lost their lives in an accident early Saturday morning on the campus of Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.

Emily Collins '04 and Rachel Nargiso '04, both of Norwich, N.Y., were among four people who died, and three more students were injured. The accident is being investigated by New York State Police.

“The entire campus community is deeply saddened by this tragedy. Emily and Rachel were valued members of our community and we mourn their loss,” said Hobart and William Smith Colleges President Mark D. Gearan. “Any loss of life brings great sadness, but it is particularly difficult to contemplate the loss of young people with such promise. On behalf of the Colleges I extend my prayerful condolences to the Collins and Nargiso families.”

Hobart and William Smith have opened the Counseling Center on campus throughout the weekend to accommodate students who would like to speak to a counselor.

There is also a gathering in memory of the two women scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, in the Hirshson Ballroom on campus. No information is currently available about services for the two women, but a memorial service will be held on campus at a later date.
