March 10, 2000 Geneva, NY – The William Smith Athletics Association will aid in the fight against breast cancer through its sponsorship of The Great Heron 5K Road Race. The race will be held on Saturday, April 15, starting with a 7 a.m. check-in at Boswell Field on the Hobart and William Smith Colleges campus. The race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
This is the third year William Smith has held a road race and the second year that the event will support breast cancer research. Last year, more than 170 runners raised $1,000 and this year organizers hope to double their support by raising $2,000 through increased sponsorship and greater participation.
The cost of the race is $12 if registration is completed by April 7, after April 7 the cost is $15. All those who register prior to the race will receive a free T-shirt. Awards will be presented for overall winners, as well as to age group winners in female and male divisions. Walkers are welcome. Registration forms can be obtained at the Colleges Sport and Recreation Center on Hamilton Street, Winn Seeley Gymnasium, or by calling Sally Scatton, head field hockey coach, at 781-3940.
