Cummings’ Kayak Sonnets Accepted

Peter Cummings, professor of English and comparative literature, has had a set of seven sonnets called “The Invention of the Kayak” accepted for publication in 2003 by Canoe and Kayak Magazine out of Washington State. The set imagines an origin story for the kayak in ancient Inuit Eskimo seal hunting, and attempts to capture some of the alluring versatility and seaworthiness of the craft.
