Environmental Defender To Speak At Hobart and William Smith

Jacob Scherr from the National Resource Defense Council leads discussion

February 28, 2000 Geneva, NY – Jacob Scherr, director of the International Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council, who has been working at the front of the environmental movement for more than 25 years, will discuss “Globalization: Environmental Peril and Promise” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, in the Geneva Room on the Hobart and William Smith Colleges campus.

Scherr has worked toward the elimination of nuclear pollution, the banning of lead gasoline, and on the environment and the WTO, along with many other top environmental campaigns.

The Natural Resources Defense Council’s purpose is to safeguard the Earth: its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends. The NRDC works to restore the integrity of the elements that sustain life — air, land, and water — and to defend endangered natural places. Ultimately, NRDC strives to help create a new way of life for humankind, one that can be sustained indefinitely without fouling or depleting the resources that support all life on Earth.

Everyone who is interested in the environmental field is invited to join Hobart and William Smith Colleges and hear this knowledgeable veteran speak on the realities of our environmental situation and how environmental activism can help.
