More work sites can be accommodated
March 16, 2000 Geneva, NY – Organizers have announced that “Celebrate Service, Celebrate Geneva,” will be held this year on Saturday, April 29. The annual day of service combines Hobart and William Smith Colleges students, faculty, and staff with members of the community to volunteer for the morning to assist agencies and organizations in Geneva that need help.
Organizers note that they are still looking for potential work sites, so representatives or affiliates of non-profit organizations who could use the help are encouraged to contact the Public Service Office on the HWS campus at (315) 781-3825.
The first Day of Service was held in 1994, and each year draws approximately 1,000 volunteers who assist nearly 50 area organizations.
Volunteers meet on the HWS campus and are transported to and from designated work sites. The volunteer work is done between 9 a.m. and noon, and includes such activities as raking, painting, and cleaning.
Upon their return to campus, volunteers have lunch and join together in a celebration of their collective efforts to improve the community in which they live.
Everyone is encouraged to consider volunteering on April 29 so this can be the best year yet for this event.
