April 14, 2000 Geneva, NY – An art exhibition titled “Jason and the Argonauts: A Narrative, Figurative Installation,” by Mark Oxman, will open on Friday, April 28, with an artist's reception from 7 until 9 p.m. in the Houghton House Gallery on the Hobart and William Smith Colleges campus.
The Art Department of Hobart and William Smith Colleges is pleased to present the work of Mark Oxman at Houghton House Gallery. The narrative, figurative sculpture installation titled “Jason and the Argonauts” will run from April 28 through May 22. The exhibition is composed of a series of cast sculptures that use as its theme the tale of heroic Jason taken from classical mythology.
Oxman is currently on the faculty of American University where he has taught since 1994; formerly he taught at Amherst College. The award-winning sculptor has exhibited widely, and won numerous sculpture commissions. An opening reception, free and open to the public, will be held from 7 until 9 p.m. on Friday April 28, at Houghton House Gallery and Prof. Oxman will be present. In addition, Oxman will present a slide lecture on his work at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, in Houghton House room 212.
The event is free and the public is welcome to attend.
