May 18, 2000 Geneva, NY – The annual Student Art Exhibition at Hobart and William Smith Colleges opens at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 26, at the Houghton House Gallery on the Colleges campus. The opening, from 7 until 10 p.m., will feature more than 100 pieces of art and will include live entertainment and refreshments. The public is invited to view this impressive exhibition of local talent. (The drawing pictured on the right, an intaglio, was created by Lindsey Hogan '00.)
The exhibition features year-end highlights from art students including paintings, drawings, printmaking, photography, bronze and marble sculptures, architectural models, and 3-D designs from 28 studio art courses offered at Hobart and William Smith.
The exhibition will be on display through June 12. The recipient(s) of the Arthur Dove Art Award will also be announced at the art exhibition opening. The Dove Award was established by William B. Carr in honor of Arthur Dove, well-known painter, native of Geneva, and alumnus of Hobart College. The award is used to purchase a work of art created by a student at the Colleges that in the judgment of the awards committee best expresses the essential spirit and ideas that Arthur Dove sought in his works.
The Houghton House Gallery is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and can be reached at (315) 781-3487.
