June 22, 2000 Geneva, NY – Hobart and William Smith Colleges are looking for families in the area who are interested in helping to welcome international students to the Finger Lakes community through an informal “Host Family Program.”
Through the program, international students are housed on the HWS campus. Host families offer a window into American life that the classroom cannot fully describe, and an opportunity for interaction with elders and children outside of the context of classes and academic concerns. Some of what host families may offer include a special meal, a holiday celebration, religious observances, a weekend activity, or help with practical concerns of living in Geneva. The nature and frequency of interaction evolves with the nature of the relationship that is forged between family and student.
International students may share with families something of their own culture and a perspective from beyond our borders. Students arrive about August 22.
