September 12, 2000 Geneva, NY-As part of the Distinguished Faculty Awards for 2000, the public is invited to a special concert at 8:15 p.m. in St. John's Chapel on September 22. The program of organ and choral works will feature Professor Lafford, alumni and alumnae, and the Colleges Chorale directed by Associate Professor of Music Robert Cowles. A new work by Professor Lafford, “In Praise of Music,” based upon text from Shakespeare's “The Tempest,” will premier.
This year's event, “Celebration of an Era of Excellence in The Humanities at the Colleges,” honors four distinguished professors, Benjamin P. Atkinson (1917-1987), John Lydenberg (1913-1987), Otto E. Schoen-Rene (1909-1967), and Professor Emeritus of Music Lindsay A. J. Lafford, Lord of Ridley.
