September 25, 2000 Geneva, NY-Nationally known dancer Risa Steinberg will perform “A Celebration of Dance” at 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, in the Winn-Seeley Dance Theater on the HWS campus. General admission is $10; students and children are $5.
“A Celebration of Dance” features the solo dance of Risa Steinberg, and the narration of Mark Wenderlich. The program introduces the audience to American modern dance and its legacy through dances from pioneers of modern dance, including Isadora Duncan, Doris Humphrey, Jose Limon, Eleanor King, and Anna Sokolow, as well as contemporary choreographers Colin Connor, Wally Cardona, and Sean Curran.
Risa Steinberg is internationally known as a solo artist, teacher, and director of the works of Jose Limon. The Village Voice dance critic Deborah Jowitt called Steinberg “one of our great modern dancers.” Jennifer Dunning, of The New York Times, said “Risa Steinberg has one of the wisest bodies in dance, a small woman whose every move is imbued with easy grandeur.”
