October 19, 2000 Geneva, NY-Hobart and William Smith Professor Emeritus of Art John Loftus' “river haiku” in ink and color opens on Friday, October 20, at Houghton House on the HWS campus. “river haiku” encompasses more than 30 works, many of them Oriental in style.
“river haiku” is the latest work by Loftus, who focuses on nature and landscapes with abstract paintings. He was appointed HWS professor of art and chairman of the art department in 1967, and over the years has studied in France, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China. His first one-man art show was at Artists Gallery, New York City, in 1954; since then he has shown his work throughout New York State, and Pennsylvania, and in Paris, France. He has also been featured in many local galleries and exhibitions.
An opening reception will be held from 7 until 9 p.m. on Friday, October 20, at the gallery.
The exhibition will run through November 18. Houghton House gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
